Pet-Friendly Hotel Booking Message: Questions and Copyable Template

Copy a clear enquiry, get the full pet policy in writing, and avoid surprises at check-in.

Booking note: Pet policies and charges are property-specific and can change. Confirm every important detail directly with the accommodation before paying.

Give the hotel the details it needs

Tell the property your check-in and check-out dates, number of pets, species, approximate weight or size, and the room type you intend to reserve. If relevant, ask whether multiple pets or your pet’s breed are permitted. Never assume that a “pets allowed” filter guarantees acceptance for every animal or room.

Share only details needed to confirm the booking. Do not send veterinary records or sensitive personal information unless the property has a legitimate, clearly explained requirement.

Ask about the entire pet policy

Request a written answer covering the following points:

Policies for trained assistance animals may be governed by different laws. Ask the property to explain the applicable rules rather than assuming ordinary pet fees or restrictions apply.

Copy-and-send booking message

Replace the bracketed fields before sending. The wording works for email or a booking-platform message:

Subject: Pet policy confirmation for [dates] — [room type]

Hello,

I am considering booking a [room type] from [check-in date] to [check-out date] for [number of guests]. I will be travelling with [number] [dog(s)/cat(s)/other pet(s)], approximately [weight/size] each.

Could you please confirm in writing that my pet(s) are accepted in this specific room on these dates? Please tell me about any species, weight, breed or number limits; the complete pet fees, taxes and deposits for the stay; any cleaning or damage charges; and whether pets can be left alone in the room.

Could you also confirm any restricted areas, relevant housekeeping rules, and the cancellation or refund conditions if the pet policy prevents our stay?

If I book, how should I add the pet(s) to the reservation so that check-in staff can see the approval?

Thank you, [your name]

For a shorter enquiry, prioritize explicit pet acceptance, total cost and unattended-pet rules, then ask for the remaining conditions before paying.

Save the approval with the reservation

Keep the hotel’s reply, the room description, pet fees, cancellation terms and reservation number together. If you use a booking platform, check that the approval is recorded in the booking messages or reservation notes—not only in a separate phone conversation.

If the reply is vague (“pets are generally welcome”), ask the hotel to confirm your specific pet, room and dates. A written message helps resolve misunderstandings but does not override applicable law or the actual booking contract.

Reconfirm before you arrive

A few days before travel, confirm that the room type, dates, pet count and charges have not changed. If the hotel changes your room or your pet’s circumstances change, request fresh approval. Save an offline copy of the confirmation for check-in.

If the property declines your pet, compare alternatives before committing to a non-refundable booking. Keep a backup accommodation option in your trip plan.
